Secondary Operations for Powder Metal Parts
While Powder Metal is capable of holding exacting tolerances, even tighter tolerance control can be achieved with secondary operations such as machining. In addition to form machining, drilling and tapping can be economically done. Secondary heat treatment and steam treatment are readily available to enhance the final properties. A wide variety of corrosion protection options can be done once the net shape is accomplished. Platings like Zn, chromates, and Ni, along with an array of coatings and black oxide, are economical and locally sourced.
Secondary operations may consist of drilling, tapping, assembly, grinding, milling, plating, heat-treating, organic coating, etc.
